It has the second largest population of gays and lesbians in the state, after Philadelphia. There is no one gay club but the entire community is gay so the designation of “gay club” is not really necessary. The area is very green with many old trees and perennial gardens. Many who live there attribute the success of the town to gay activist Sean Strub who bought the Hotel Fauchere and restored it to its turn-of-the-century Victorian elegance. The downtown also boasts many wonderful cafes and restaurants. The town has a vibrant arts community and boasts two beautiful main streets, Harford and Broad that are lined with exquisite historic buildings, antique stores and galleries. Many gay & lesbians buy time-shares and cottages in this area to take advantage of the fishing, boating and swimming offered. Both parks have protected forests, majestic waterfalls and many hiking trails. It is nestled between the protected forest environment of the Poconos and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Milford is located right on the Delaware River where Pennsylvania meets New York and New Jersey.
